Lydia Bassett

Violinist and Violist Lydia Bassett hails from Arlington MA, where she works as an advocate of music education, a teaching artist and active performer. In 2009, Bassett co-founded the Klassical Kidz Music Studio with her sister, Adrienne. She has gained a reputation not only for her excellence in teaching, but for her individual approach and innovative methods, inspiring and delighting students of all ages. 

As performer, a Lydia has proven herself a serious musician in both the orchestral and chamber music world. She is concertmaster of a vibrant group of musicians forming The Latitude New Music Ensemble. Lydia is an active proponent of new music, premiering Lost in a Memory, a duo for violin and harp written for her in 2013 by Boston composer Jared Hettrick.  She will again be premiering works on both violin and viola with New Music next spring.

            Lydia has studied with Benedict Goodfriend of the Kandinsky Trio, violinist and teaching legend Eric Rosenblith, violist Kazuko Matsusaka of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and concluded her training with her mentor, Laura Bossert, at the Longy School of Music of Bard College where she earned her Masters in Violin Performance.
