Violinist and violist Rebecca Phillips has distinguished herself as a chamber musician and dedicated teacher. An active performer both nationally and internationally, Ms. Phillips has performed in such celebrated venues as Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, Bohemian National Hall,  the Fisher Center, and the Shanghai Performing Arts Center. Her recent chamber music collaborations have included performances with violinists William Preucil & Laura Goldberg, cellist, Terry King, and the Villiers, Hausmann, & Invoke string quartets. Having made her national public radio debut as a member of the Con Affetto String Quartet on Robert Sherman’s McGraw Hill Young Artist Showcase in 2014, Ms. Phillips was subsequently featured as a soloist in a performance of Corelli’s Christmas Concerto with the Lyrica Chamber Orchestra in the Spring of 2019.

Other concerts include solo and chamber music performances with the Dvorak American Heritage Association, the Sound Gallery Ensemble, Civic Morning Musicales, Wellesley College Guest Artist series, SeptemberFest, If Music Be thy Food, and the Art House Alliance Series in Syracuse, NY.

Ms. Phillips versatility makes her equally adept as a free improviser and jazz musician as well as an accomplished violist.  In addition, as a musician and educator she keenly feels a responsibility to use her talents whenever possible to make the world a better place and bring people together through music. She performs regularly as a member of her church’s musical ensemble and has worked as a teaching artist in underprivileged communities, serving as a mentor to students of the Longy School of Music’s El Sistema Side by Side series under the baton and mentorship of Maestro Gustavo Dudamel. In addition, Rebecca has held a teaching residency at Rockport Music’s String Summit, and was a member of From the Top’s inaugural “Young Artist in Residence” string quartet as a part of their Development of Arts Leaders program. It is her hope that she can further spread the message of healing and peace through music to those who need it most.

Passionate about teaching, Ms. Phillips has served as Laura Bossert’s teaching assistant at the Longy School of Music of Bard College and at Wellesley College. She has also taught String Pedagogy and Methodology at the Setnor School of Music of Syracuse University as a member of their Visiting Artist Faculty in the 2018-2019 academic year.  Rebecca is also on the faculties of various chamber music festivals such as the New England Chamber Music Festival and ArtsAhimsa at Belvoir Terrace.

Ms. Phillips holds a Master’s Degree from Syracuse University, as well as an Undergraduate Diploma and Teaching Artist Certificate from the Longy School of Music of Bard College. Her primary teachers and mentors are Laura Bossert and Terry King.  When Rebecca is not performing, she loves to spend time playing with her beautiful Siberian Husky, Chinook
